Open the Observatory >Lawmakers say classified briefing shows Russian misinformation targeting US midterm Democrats
Senator Mark Warner and Representative Jim Himes said a classified briefing from the Director of National Intelligence indicated Russia is running an online misinformation campaign against Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterms. Warner also cited news reports of AI-generated fake ads targeting James Talarico in Texas and Jon Ossoff in Georgia, but did not attribute those ads to Russia. Moscow has denied meddling in past US elections; ODNI and the Russian embassy did not immediately respond to Reuters.
